It's been an ongoing issue at our apartment. All last summer we suffered through brutal heat not only outside but in our apartment. The only reason is that our a.c. unit is junk. I suppose there are several ways to solve this issue, but since we live in an apartment complex, it would seem that the maintenance crew and management would take care of it, if not the first time it happened than at least the second. Nope! Last summer we knew that the a.c. didn't seem to work correctly, so we called management and they came up to fix it. We had a cool apartment for three days. Called again, they "fixed" it. We maybe lasted a week. Finally we thought, maybe we should just leave it off for a few days, turn on some fans and go for it. We did that. It was about the time it peaked to 95 degrees inside and we were physically ill, that we turned it back on. no air came. We looked down the kitchen window at the unit to see a giant puddle around it. We called again. This time it was a weekend and no one was there but the emergency crew. They said the unit needed freeon. They however were not licensed to use it. We had to sleep in that heat that night. The next day the man came to fix it.
To make this short, it once again broke. And this continued, calling and having it "fixed" and then it breaking, until it was finally cool enough outside in the beginning of fall to leave windows open. So that brings us to this summer. We called maintenance and told them that the unit was still broken and they sent someone out to "fix" it again. We were surprised when we had a cool house for an entire month and figured the problem was finally solved. About a week ago, Travis realized that it felt warmer than usual inside. We looked at the thermestat and saw it was already 80 degrees inside at 10 in the morning. So, I once again called, this time letting the annoyance ring through. Once again, the maintenance crew trooped up to "fix" our unit. We had decided to leave the apartment for fear that I may lash out at them. When we came home, it was nice and cool. Now, keep in mind, we keep our thermestat set at a reasonable 75 degrees or higher all day. It's not freezing over.
Well, this brings us to today. About two hours ago. I felt it was warmer than usual and checked the temp. it was 78 degrees. I haven't been able to get a hold of management to relieve me for another week, and it looks as though we will have to suffer through a warm night. I am just amazed that management hasn't figured out that just maybe a new a.c. unit all together might actually keep them from hearing me complain. I don't even run an apartment complex, and I figured that out! And so, the battle for the A.C. continues to wage on.
